Product Description

Get a true piece of Americana! No other bike can stand up to the style of the Indian Chief, and this particular vision continues to influence the construction of bikes today. Legendary movie actor Steve McQueen bought himself a Chief in 1977 to escape the clutter in his life.

The Indian Motorcycle Company began producing their first vehicles in 1901; from the very beginning, the Indian was manufactured with excellence. In the 1940’s, Indian found its highest production year in 1947.

These 1947 Chief Gas Tanks are welded steel tanks, not lead soldered, like the original tanks. They are constructed using modern welding and assembly techniques. The original tanks, in most cases over 65 years old, are failing due to metal fatigue, cracked solder joints, and rust. The solution: new steel Iron Horse gas tanks.

Script emblems, gas and oil caps, and dash, must be purchased separately.

*First year that the tank had the beautiful Indian Script emblem.*
